Winter is knocking at our doors and it is that time of the year when you have to think about baby and the essentials he needs to stay warm during the cold season. What does he need to get through winter? We present 6 accessories in this article.
1) Warm clothes and snowsuits
A baby loses heat faster than an adult, which is why in winter it is recommended to always dress them with more layers than us. There is a lot of choice when it comes to choosing warm baby clothes to face winter. Bodysuits with long sleeves, cardigans and jackets for babies, snowsuits, etc., everything your child needs to stay covered.
Please note that for newborns or infants, it is better to opt for a snow baby bunting rather than a snowsuit.
Winter hat is an essential when the cold days are here. It is very important to well cover baby’s extremities and neck to prevent them catching cold. You can choose between super warm winter hats with or without ears and fitted with cords to hold well in place, hoods (to cover head, ears and neck) and neck covers, made of and lined with cotton or fleece.
Rather than baby gloves, prefer mitts to cover your toddler’s hands. There is a wide selection of waterproof mittens with or without thumb, coming with adjustable cords to fit perfectly on baby. To make sure you don’t lose the mitts, also go with mitten clips so you don’t have to worry about that.
4) Boots and soft ankle boots
Baby’s boots should be big enough so they can move their toes, wear a second pair of socks or liners and even with soft ankle boots. Soft ankle boots are best worn for indoor use or light outdoor activity.
5) Stroller footmuffs
For little walks in winter, stroller footmuffs will keep your baby warm and comfortable all the way through. We offer a wide range of stroller footmuffs to suit your needs and tastes.
Matching the footmuff and just as practical, you can use stroller mitts to walk and push your baby in their stroller for a pleasant moment for both of you.
6) Moisturizing creams and balms against the cold
Cold weather attacks baby’s skin more quickly, and they are more likely to suffer from frostbites. Make sure to check their face, fingers and ears regularly to kow their temperature. There are creams and balms that you can apply to your baby before each outing. They act as barriers against wind or cold. Mustela’s Nourishing Cream with Cold Cream is specially formulated for the daily care and protection of your baby’s skin from birth onwards. Their Nourishing Stick with Cold Cream can be used to protect the parts of your baby’s face that are most exposed (lips, nose, cheeks). It is easy to take along for touch-ups when out and very efficient to strengthen your child’s skin barrier.
Finally, it should be noted that the Canadian Paediatric Society recommends that you do not go out with your newborn baby when the temperature is -28 degrees Celsius or less.
